Assyriska is back!

The team has lost two out of the last three games, the rain was purring down and we got Alex, Diño and Bergman suspended. The atmosphere wasn’t the greatest among the fans that I spoke to before the game. Väsby United came to the field with confidence and hunger for getting the three points.

Assyriska started carefully and they were worried to make mistakes the first half hour. VU couldn’t do much except some shots that weren’t difficult for Rytterbro to save. Then Zelge proved once again that they should be considered as the 12th player. They sang as powerful as 30,000 men and that made the players to wake up from their coma.

Aziz Corr Nyang, back from suspension, was in a playful mood as he made his defender taste more of the plastic grass than getting the ball. It was pure amusement for us football lovers to watch him in action. Mattias Genc started because of the suspension of Diño, along with Göran Marklund and he showed what a potential he possess. With more chances, and right attitude, this player could be someone special.

The last quarter of the first half, the host thundered against the VU goal and created several chances where Göran Marklund got the best one. He got a cross from Batan which he headed over the keeper, on the bar.

The second half just started when Göran Marklund got a golden opportunity when he became clean with the VU keeper. Unfortunately, Marklund got too much time to think what to do and that usually ends up differently. We started to get flash back from the last games and prepare for more lost points but our captain, Göran Marklund, showed that he did not accept a defeat, nor did he accept a draw. There was only one way this game would finish and that is where Assyriska stands as the winners.

Batan (who else?) did what he is good at by passing through the VU defenders and cross the ball to Marklund who did what he is good at and that is to score. We were all in the seventh heaven and the confidence grew back as it was before the season break in July.

VU tried to equalise but our Achilles heels the last games, the defenders, showed us that it was just temporary and that we don’t have to worry anymore. Ilyas Merkes showed more confidence when he got to start with the position he is used to. Merkes with Lorentzon, Conateh and Batan, were like tigers, when they didn’t let anyone intrude their territory. This was the first in many games we kept a clean sheet.

Another positive injection to this game was when the latest import from Brazil, Everton Alexandre Lemos was introduced. He came on for Mattias Genc and he showed his passing skills and he even got a good chance but the VU keeper saved his shot.
